This ceramic and glass mosaic features handmade ceramic tiles some of the jewels of Hakalau— two ʻākepa birds ( bright orange male and camouflaged green female), ʻakala berries & blossoms, lehua mamo flowers, and kupukupu ferns—surrounded by iridescent blue glass and millefiori glass rounds and set in a 10 x 10 x 0.5 inch frame. The back has a wire for hanging and a ceramic certificate of authenticity signed by the artist. The artistʻs inspiration for this piece was a daytrip to Pua ʻĀkala Tract in Hakalau NWR forest on Mauna Kea.
